UK National Academic Archive
Part of our ongoing commitment to widening access to essential material across the subject spectrum.
The JISC Collections
UK National Academic Archive
includes an expanding range of specially selected resources which are available in perpetuity to UK Higher and Further Education institutions, and Research Councils.
Wide ranging content and broad subject coverage
The UK National Academic Archive offers unrivalled online access to a vast range of journals, historical map data, newspapers, periodicals, and books published between 1473 and 2008.
The resources in the archive cover a broad range of fields including arts and humanities, health and life sciences, social sciences, science, engineering and technology, business, law, and medicine.
“Now all the students can have the resources of the British Library, of the Oxford and Cambridge University Libraries, and of some of the great North American collections on their desktop.”
Justin Champion, Professor of the History of Ideas and Director of Executive, Electronic and External Programmes, Royal Holloway, University of London
Access for all
The cost of acquiring archive resources is beyond the means of the majority of institutions. Our purchasing role at a national level makes it possible for all institutions to provide access to a wealth of high quality online resources — and over 250 higher and further education institutions are already taking advantage of the agreements negotiated.
“We would find it hard without this sort of initiative to find the money to purchase the archives ourselves.”
Lesley Cranshaw, Faculty Information Consultant, University of Hertfordshire
Efficiency gains
Agreements for the resources available within the UK National Academic Archive currently deliver over £7 million in annual efficiency gains to the community.
Unlimited user access — anytime, anywhere
Many of the original works included in the archive resources are very rare and/or fragile. However, an unlimited number of users at institutions across the UK can now access these essential materials, alongside a range of other resources, simultaneously — from wherever they are, and 24/7.
